Imaging Lenses

Imaging Lenses are used to view objects in imaging systems. Imaging Lenses are imaging components used in imaging systems to focus an image of an examined object onto a camera sensor. Depending on the lens, Imaging Lenses can be used to remove parallax or perspective error or provide adjustable magnifications, field of views, or focal lengths. Imaging Lenses allow an object to be viewed in several ways to illustrate certain features or characteristics that may be desirable in certain applications.

When optical designers attempt to compare the performance of optical systems, a commonly used measure is the modulation transfer function (MTF). MTF is used for components as simple as a spherical singlet lens to those as complex as a multi-element telecentric. In order to understand the significance of MTF, it is to consider some general principles and practical examples for defining MTF including its components, importance, and characterization.

Applications of Imaging Lenses

Imaging Source

New 5 MegaPixel GigE Board Cameras with Power over Ethernet (PoE)

The Imaging Source, an international manufacturer of industrial cameras for machine vision, has just announced a new series of 5 megapixel board cameras with Power over Ethernet (PoE).

The 5 megapixel GigE board cameras are characterized by their compact PCB design (45 x 45 x 20 mm), Power over Ethernet (PoE) and highly affordable price. Binning, windowing and high-speed readout are but a few of the performance enhancements, which when coupled with DigitalClarity technology, dramatically reduce image noise levels. The color, monochrome and Bayer models ship with a resolution from VGA to 5 megapixel, a frame rate of up to 132 fps and integrate an M12 and C/CS mounts. As a result, the 5 megapixel board cameras are ideally suited to a variety of machine vision applications in the fields of automation, traffic surveillance, quality assurance, medicine and CCTV.

The software support of the cameras leaves nothing to be desired: Both programmers and end-users immediately feel at home. Getting started with the cameras takes only a matter of minutes and integrating them into existing applications takes only a few lines of code. Drivers for LabView, HALCON, DirectX, Twain and WDM are included. All camera parameters and settings can be set via the shipped software. Furthermore, a number of automatic modes are available, which guarantee optimal image quality in varying light conditions. The cameras ship with drivers for Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8, the SDK IC Imaging Control 3.2 (.NET and C++ class library) and IC Capture. The latter is a powerful end-user application, which allows all camera parameters to be set, live video to be displayed, singular images and image sequences to be captured.

Industrial Cameras India - Spark -5000M-PMCL

Ultra-fast 5-megapixel Spark camera

JAI has introduced the Spark SP-5000M-PMCL and Spark SP-5000C-PMCL, a pair of new 5-megapixel industrial cameras in JAI’s high performance Spark Series. The cameras feature a Mini Camera Link interface and can provide full resolution output at up to 134 frames per second for 8-bit monochrome or raw Bayer images, or 120 frames per second for 10-bit images. 12-bit output is also supported at up to 61 fps.

Driving this high performance output is a new 2560 x 2048 pixel CMOS imager initially available exclusively from JAI. The SP-5000 cameras take advantage of a mixture of on-chip and in-camera capabilities to deliver a rare combination of ultra-fast output and high image quality.

For example, the SP-5000’s imager features an auto-scaling front end function that uses the full well capacity even in lower light conditions to more accurately quantize noise and improve dynamic range. On the color model (SP-5000C-PMCL), an on-chip 4-channel analog gain control is provided to allow individual adjustment of R, G1, G2, and B information for better white balancing with reduced noise.

JAI has added in-camera pattern correction algorithms to provide lower noise and better low-light performance than with standard on-chip pattern correction alone. Also included is JAI’s Auto Level Control (ALC) that combines auto gain, auto shutter, and auto iris capabilities in an integrated function to let users optimize their auto exposure control for lowest noise, fastest shutter, or other priorities.

The cameras are equipped with an auxiliary lens control circuit that supports P-iris control, as well as  programmable 3-axis control of  motorized zoom lenses or other analog accessories.

The dual Mini Camera Link interface can be configured to support different data rate requirements using Base, Medium or Full configurations. Power can also be supplied through the Camera Link connectors using a dual-channel-powered frame grabber, or can be provided via the separate 12-pin connector.

The combination of speed and resolution makes the SP-5000-PMCL cameras ideal for high-speed production line inspection, as well as process monitoring and event capture. ROI and binning capabilities, available for both monochrome and color models, provide added flexibility for utilizing both the high frame rate and pixel resolution of the camera.

Outdoor applications benefit from the cameras’ automatic level control (ALC) capabilities, built-in high dynamic range mode (monochrome), and extended temperature rating enabling the camera to operate in  conditions ranging from -45°C to +70°C.

The SP-5000-PMCL accepts standard C-mount lenses. Overall dimensions are 62 x 62 x 55.5 mm (HxWxL).

SP-5000 models with CoaXPress, dual GigE Vision, and USB3 Vision interfaces are currently under development and will be introduced seprately in the coming months.

Spark SP-5000-PMCL highlights:

  • New Spark Series 1-inch CMOS 5-megapixel progressive scan camera.
  • Global shutter technology handles motion without spatial distortion.
  • 2560(H) x 2048(V) resolution– 5:4 aspect ratio.
  • 5μm square pixels.
  • 134 frames/second with full resolution for 8-bit output120frames/second for 10-bit output (depends on tap configuration).
  • 12-bit output at up to 61 frames/second.
  • Dual Mini Camera Link interface with “Power Over” capability (can accept power via the Mini Camera Link connectors or via the 12-pin connector).

Electrical contractors know the value of having the right tool available for the job at hand. FLIR offers a wide range of solutions to help you improve the efficiency, accuracy, and safety of your work.

Service Companies
Bolted connection with increased resistance results in heat conducted down the bus bar.
Detect Problem Areas Before the Real Problems Occur
In production plants, office facilities, hospitals or hotels, an infrared camera instantly makes hot spots visible on a clear thermal image. You can scan electrical cabinets and components and survey multiple wires and connections to get an instant picture of potential trouble. Detect the problem area and repair it before real problems occur. Common electrical targets are fuses, electrical panels, bolted connections and switchgear.

Measure Temperatures in a Non-Contact Mode
A thermal camera allows you to measure the temperature of any object you are looking at in a non-contact mode, without putting yourself in danger. A crosshair or an area in the infrared image allows you to measure either the point value or the max or min value. Detect the most diverse electrical problems instantaneously by seeing them on a thermal image.

Whether it is a lightweight handheld infrared camera that fits easily in a tool belt, or a full-featured, high-definition infrared camera, FLIR can help you build the competitive edge you need in today’s marketplace.
